For those who aren’t familiar with Squishmallows, they are very popular stuffed toys that took off during Covid. I ordered Squishmallows: The Official Baking Book, thinking it was a children’s baking cookbook. I was wrong. This baking book is full of dozens of absolutely mouthwatering baked goods. Most are sweet, but there are a few savory treats like cheddar scones which turned out to be fabulous.
It turn out that this isn’t a children’s cookbook; rather it is a baking book for adults (and collectors of the stuffed toys). The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions. The recipes aren’t particularly easy or for children, but most bakers will be able to make them easily whether they are beginners or advanced. There are beautiful photographs of most of the dishes, and cute, colorful illustrations of Squishmallows. The recipes are also named for the different Squishmallows.
All told, this cookbook is fun and very colorful. The recipes are very tempting, and they turn out picture perfect. Who could resist Zuzana’s triple choc chip cookies, Angie’s peanut butter brownies, or Edie’s Easter Egg Fridge Cake? There are notes at the beginning of each recipe with little blurbs on some of the Squishmallows.
